Shari Bernhardt

Shari is from Plainfield, Indiana where it all started for her. She played club volleyball starting at a young age continuing through school and college. She attended IUPUI (Indiana Univ. Purdue Univ. at Indianapolis) on a scholarship to play. It was there at a time when she was searching, that Jesus found her. He transformed her life through a simple connection with an older volleyball player who took Shari under her wing during college and discipled her and connected her with the Campus Outreach ministry.

Shari wants that same transformation for other coaches, athletes, and leaders in the sports world. Because of her experiences being a college athlete, using the avenue of volleyball specifically is the best way she knows to join God is restoring people and seeing a movement happen within Orange County, which in turn could impact the world through their influence.

She moved to California in 2012 after being an intern the summer of 2011 with FCA Volleyball. It was that summer that God confirmed the call to ministry by seeing how the platform of sports can be a simple way to reach people that probably wouldn’t hear about Jesus with how sports in our culture today can be a driving force away from God and the church. This cultivated her passion for equipping and empowering others in their faith journey.

Currently, Shari has been on staff for 5 years and continues to pour into the local volleyball coaches, leaders, and athletes within Orange County, with a specific focus in Huntington Beach. She resides in downtown HB with others involved in the FCA ministry. Shari enjoys playing beach volleyball, working out, adventuring or hanging with friends, dancing, and music. She misses her family and community in Indiana but she continues to feel called to FCA in California.
